Summary
Walton's Letters
Letter 1: Robert Walton tell his sister Margret Seville that his preparing for his departure. He his looking for a passage to the North Pole. He is excited to set foot on land untouched by any others before him.
Letter 2: Walton complains about being lonely and having no friends. He wishes more for a friend than anything else. He sees himself as a lover a romantic.
Letter 3: He has sailed and is confident they will achieve feat.
Letter 4: Walton and men get stuck in the thick ice of the northern oceans. As they sit and wait they see two sleds. The first has a big giant figure on it traveling very fast. The next day they see a less fortunate sled, which happens to be Victor Frankenstein who is near death. When he is healthy he sets to tell his story the next day.

Chapters 1-4
Ch 1: Victor Frankenstein, begins to tell the reader about his background information. Like how he is from Geneva, Switzerland. As well as Victor telling Walton about his odd situation about his parents, how Victor's father Alphonse was the protector of his best friends daughter, Caroline, the odd thing is they end up getting married and having Victor. When Victor was a young boy, his mother Caroline was traveling in Italy and saw a beautiful blonde girl and she ended up being an orphan. In the end, Caroline adopted Elizabeth and made her part of the family. Caroline's goal of this adaptation was for Victor and Elizabeth to get married.
Ch 2: As a young boy Victor had a small group of friends, including Elizabeth as his best friend. The other member of this group was Henry Clerval, one of Victor's schoolmates. As he grew up, he began to be interested in science especially natural philosophy after reading books by Cornelius Agrippa, and Albert Magnus. He was really intrigued by alchemists when he saw a lighting bolt destroy a tree. Seeing this he wants to learn more.
Ch 3: When Victor turns seventeen, he decides to attend a university in Ingolstadt. But, before he lives his mother gets scarlet fever while trying to cure Elizabeth from it and ends up dying. His mothers made one last wish, she wished for Victor and Elizabeth to get married. After a few weeks of settling down with family following the death, Victor finally leaves for the university where he finds a perfect place to live and run his experiments. As soon as he gets there he sets up a meeting with Professor Krempe who is master in the natural philosophy field, after the meeting Krempe tells Victor all his studying of alchemists was a waste of time. Feeling discouraged he stumbles about a lecture about chemistry and Professor Waldman, this helped lead Victor into following science.
Ch 4: Victor is so intrigued by his studies he shuts out the outside world entirely, he begins to study anatomy and decay of the human body. Realizing he has mastered everything is professors have for him, Victor decides to figure out the secret of life. He decides to build a human and devotes all his hours towards it and ends up ignoring his family, friends, and even his own personal health.

Chapters 5-8
Ch 5: After hard fought months of struggle and disappointment, Victor finally brings the creature to life. Disgusted by the creature terrifying looks, Victor rushes off to his room to sleep it off, but when he wakes the creature is over him causing Victor to evacuate his apartment. After spending the night in the courtyard he goes into town and unexpectedly runs into his best pale Henry Clerval. Happy to see someone he knows and talk about his family, Victor is overjoyed until he takes Henry back to his apartment scared what he might find waiting for him. But, the apartment is empty upon his return. Soon after Victor gets extremely sick due to all the work he had done on the creature, but Henry is there to nurse him back to health and give him letters from Elizabeth.
Ch 6: Elizabeth letter discusses her concern about Victor and how much they miss him back at home. Victor introduces Henry to many of the professors, but seeing these people worsen his symptoms. Victor decides to return to his family in Geneva as he awaits for his father to give him a day of return, during the that time Henry and Victor go on trip into the country to get away and rest up.
Ch 7: In the beginning of chapter seven Victor receives a letter telling him that his youngest brother William has been murdered. Finding this shocking news he travels back home immediately, but the gates are closed before he arrives so he journeys around the woods during the night and finds out the Creature killed William. Justine, a family friend, is accused for the murder of William because William's locket was found with Justine after the death. Even though Victor knows Justine is innocent he is afraid to be known as insane.
Ch 8: Justine is brought to court about her conviction has the murderer of young William, she confess to killing William hoping the court will forgive her even though she tells Victor and Elizabeth she is innocent. Victor always knows that she is innocent because he suspects the Creature of doing it. When Justine is executed Victor goes into extreme guilt and sorrow because the monster he created has caused deaths to two of his family members.

Chapters 9-12
Ch 9: Following Justine's death, Victor is feeling very guilty for her death, even considers killing himself. But, he does not do such because he feels that would not be fair to his father and Elizabeth. Victor begins to feel better when he sees the beautiful scenery and fresh air when he is on a family vacation.
Ch 10: When Victor is deeply depressed, he decides to climb to the summit of Montanvert. In doing this he hopes the natural beauty will uplift his spirits. After he enjoys the amazing sights and sounds he sees a figure in the distance and moves closer until he realizes it is his creation. The Creature invades Victor's attempt to attack him because of the Creature's unhuman speed and strength. Victor tells the Creature to go away but the monster insist on Victor coming to his cave to listen to his life stories.
Ch 11: ( The Creature is now doing the narration) The Creature tells Victor about how he was introduced into the world and figuring out where he stands. The Creature made many discoveries the first of these are the feelings of light, dark, hunger, thirst, and cold. His first discovery was fire he saw how it can keep him warm, but as well as burn him. He figures out that by placing wood on it will provide fuel for the fire until all the wood is gone. He also found that fire could be used to make food more enjoyable. The search for food causes The Creature to finally see how people see him in civilization. First example of this is when the Creature goes into a hut and scares an old man, who runs away frightened. Next he walks into a village where as before scares the people away with just a look at him. Finally, he finds a shed which is connected to a small cottage and takes refuge there. When he settles in he realizes he can see the peoples activities through a crack in the wall. The people include an old blind man, a young woman, and a young man.
Ch 12: Through the crack, the Creature see the people are unhappy, he figures out he has cause some this emotion because he has contributed to their poverty by stealing food . To make for this wrong doing, the Creature helps the people by collecting wood at night and leaving in front of the house. Intrigued by his neighbors communicating skills, the Creature devotes most of his time to learn the language. He plans on matching the words to actions and even learns the young peoples names, in Felix and Agatha. The Creature finally sees what he looks like in a pool of water.

Through this he learns the language perfectly and now understand his neighbors conversations. As he sees the family grow, he deepens into loneliness.
Ch 14: The Creature learns the past of the cottagers. The old man De Lacey and his kids Felix and Agatha were well respected citizens. That was until Felix's plan to help Safie's father escape from prision was known by all. The family ended up being exiled and that is how they ended up in this cottage.
Ch 15: While in the woods looking for food the Creature stumbles across a bag of clothes and books. One of theses book is Paradise Lost he sees similarities between it and his own story. After he new profound skill of reading, he scavenges in his pockets and finds Victor's old journal, where he reads how disgusted his creator was of him. This causes the Creature to want to encounter the cottagers. The perfect opportunity when Just De Lacey was home figuring the blind man will not be terrified by his looks. He hopes De Lacey can convince the others to like the Creature, but as they return unexpectedly they scare the monster out.
Ch 16: Outraged, the Creature promises to bring revenge to all human beings especially Victor Frankenstein. While traveling back to Geneva he sees a girl drowning and safes her life. But, as soon as that happens he is shot. Running in pain, the creature stumbles upon William hearing his last name, the Creature goes for vengeance and kills William with her bare hands. To top it off he took the locket and placed with Justine. In the end, it asks for Victor to build him a female creature.
Ch 14: The Creature learns the past of the cottagers. The old man De Lacey and his kids Felix and Agatha were well respected citizens. That was until Felix's plan to help Safie's father escape from prision was known by all. The family ended up being exiled and that is how they ended up in this cottage.

Chapter 17: The monster tries to convince Victor that it is his right to have a female companion.Victor refuses at first. Then the creature goes on to tell Victor that all his evil doings are do to his lonliness. He also says that once Victor makes his female mate, they will live in the jungle away from all humans and he won hurt anyone ever again. Victor finally agrees.
Chapter 18: After his fateful meeting in the mountains with the monster, Victor decides to not make the creature. He begins to doubt why he agreed to make the monster. He realizes that this project will require him to gather information in England. His father notices his saddened spirits and suggests marrying Elizabeth to become well. Victor agrees that Elizabeths love is the only thing that makes him happy, but he has to create the monster first. Victor and Alphonse plan a two year tour in England and Henry tags along. After traveling for awhile they reach London.
Chapter 19: Victor and Henry journey through Scotland and Victor becomes impatient. He urges Henry to stay with one of his friends while he takes a tour of Scotland alone. Henry reluctantly agrees and Victor sets up lab in a shack and devotes hours to creating the creature.
Chapter 20: While Victor is working one night, he begins to think about what might happen after he makes the creature. He imagines the two creatures having children and taking over the world. Then he looks up to see the monster grinning at him through the window. He stops making the creature and the monster becomes enraged. He tells Victor that he will see him on his wedding night. Late at night he rows out into the ocean and dumps the parts. He falls asleep in the boat and wakes up to roaring winds. When he finally reaches the shore the townspeople greet him rudely and tell him he is under suspicion for a murder that happenede the night before.

Chapter 21: The townspeople take Victor to Mr. Kirwin, the town majistrate. Witnesses testify against him and say they found the body of a man along the beach the previous night and that just before finding the body, they saw a boat in the water that resembled Victor's. Mr. Kirwin takes Victor to see the body. When he sees the body, Victor is horrified for the body is Henry Clerval and he has the monsters black marks from his hands all around his neck. He is locked up and becomes extremly ill. While he is recovering, he is still in prison. Victors father comes to see him and takes Victor home after he is released innocent do to the lack of evidence.
Chapter 22: On their way home, Victor and his father stop in Paris so Victor can regain his strength. He recieves a letter from Elizabeth asking if he is in love with another. Victor replies and says she is his only source of joy. The letter reminds him of the threat of the monster being there on his wedding night. Eventually they arrive home and start planning for the wedding. Victor, still concerned about the monster showing up, tells Elizabeth that he has something to tell her after their wedding night. Finally the wedding takes place and they send off for a cottage to spend the night.
